Vocational education

Sunnybank Special School offers a number of programs to develop student’s vocational skills to assist their transition to post school options.

Some senior students attend TAFE part time. A student over 15 years may attend TAFE colleges in a variety of courses, which have been designed to meet the needs of our students e.g. Literacy/Numeracy and skills for living.

While at TAFE, they are supported by a Teacher Aide from this school when necessary.  Some of these programs may lead to the student attaining a Certificate of Work Readiness.

Work Experience Education, where applicable, is undertaken by all senior students. For some students this will take place in the community.

Other students will participate in school-based Work Experience.

The school runs a Market Program each Thursday.  Order forms are sent home each Tuesday and must be returned to school on Wednesday to assist with the collation of orders.

Senior school students travel to Rocklea Markets each Thursday to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables.  Students then weigh, count and pack orders which are sent home on Thursday afternoon.  When payment is received, students count the money, it is then banked and used to subsidise the cost of school resources and activities.
